The newly opened Mumbai Coastal Road connecting Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link has significantly improved travel for motorists, making the journey faster and more convenient. On average, 22,000 to 25,000 vehicles now use this route daily in both directions—Worli and Marine Drive—up from 16,000 to 17,000 in January 2024.
The increase in traffic is attributed to the opening of additional phases of the route from March 12, 2024. The road spans 10.58 km and includes a 2.07 km tunnel from Priyadarshini Park to Marine Drive, which has further eased travel.
As a result, the time taken to travel from Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link has been reduced from 30–15 minutes to just 10–15 minutes. A senior official noted a noticeable rise in usage in April, following the expansion.

The Worli stretch from Madhav Thackeray Chowk to Marine Drive South became operational on March 12, 2024. The speed limit is set at 80 km/h on the open road and 60 km/h within the tunnel, with clear signage and CCTV cameras placed every 50 to 100 meters for monitoring.
Vehicle flow has nearly doubled—from 500–700 per hour in December–January to 1,200–1,300 per hour now. Currently, the road remains open from 7 am to midnight (17 hours daily), but due to growing popularity, there are plans to make it operational 24/7.
