According to official data, 32,725 passengers travelled on the Aqua Line from Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk by 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 11. This is a notable increase of nearly 6,000 riders compared to Saturday’s, May 10, figure of 26,758 at the same duration.
However, a total ridership of 32,791 was recorded on the day 1. Of this, 16,377 commuters travelled on the extended stretch from BKC to Worli.
Over the weekend, more than 65,000 commuters used the Phase 2A of the underground metro. The stations between Kotak BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk include Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak and Worli.With this extension, the operational segment of Metro Line 3 now connects Aarey, Seepz, BKC, both airport terminals, Dharavi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, and Acharya Atre Chowk, significantly reducing travel time across the city. The trains on the Mumbai Metro-3 operate between 6.30 am and 10.30 pm at a headway of six minutes and 20 seconds. On Sundays, the trains will run from 8.30 am to 10.30 pm.
It is pertinent to note that the entire 32.5km Colaba-Bandra-Aarey stretch is expected to be operational by August, reports stated.
